In the article, "CDC Grand Rounds: Preventing Suicide Through a Comprehensive Public Health Approach," suicide is a manifestation of outside factors instead of solely being affected by mental health (894). It is manifested from multiple factors such as family history, environmental influences, along with the person's mental health. Specifically mentioned in this article is that increasing awareness of suicide is crucial in suicide prevention because it decreases the negative connotation given to suicide. This step is also outlined in great detail in Jason Healey's book, Suicide Prevention, where a procedure is detailed for individuals who believe they need to communicate suicide to a younger child who may notice their friend acting strange (35-36). Also in Suicide Prevention, Healey describes several other important actions that call on the public, obligating them to respond when the time is necessary, such as recognizing the signs (28).
