The well-being of children/adolescents is directly linked to the economic health of the family and the community. Poverty, fragile parental employment, and food insecurity impact health, development, educational attainment, and their overall welfare. The Federal Poverty Level (FPL) rate has always been higher in Lake County than the national or state averages and has increased over the past ten years from 29%-31% (census.gov). The current rate represents potentially one-third of Lake County children living in conditions that could be compared to a third-world country while aiding to high-risk factors.
