Chewing a gum that is sugar-free after you eat or drink sugary foods is an important step to aid in protecting both your teeth and your gums. Look for gum that contains Xylitol.

After you drink or eat anything, wait an hour to brush. Your enamel will have softened by then and you will brush away tiny particles that you may have missed.

Choose a diet that has many vitamins and minerals in it. Fresh vegetables and fruit will help thwart gum disease.

Eating a small cube of cheese after your meal will help reduce the acids in foods from damaging your teeth.

Avoid snacks when you can. If you have sugary drinks and foods, have them with meals to reduce the time your teeth are exposed to the detrimental effects of sugars.
