Sugar Detox for Beginners: You’re Guide to Starting a 21 Day Sugar Detox

What is Sugar? In one form or another these days it is in every single thing we put into our bodies. Sugar does occur naturally in fruits and vegetables. However, refined and artificial variations of sugar have been created as well. These variations are put into processed foods to preserve and sweeten our food. Studies show that Americans are currently consuming sugar at an alarming rate of 130 pounds per year which is equivalent to 2 teaspoons per day. This is a conservative number and experts such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture believe that it is actually higher. Sadly this level of consumption is only continuing to get higher each year. Even worse, sugar has been linked to everything from metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and even cancer.

You need to start your day with a glass of water to help wake up your system. This is a simple change that has a big impact. Drinking a glass of water helps hydrate you from the last eight hours that you did not consume any liquids. Drinking water first thing has also been shown to curb your appetite, boost your metabolism and shrink your waistline!
Breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gets your metabolism started and fuels you for the day ahead. Breakfast is the sneakiest when it comes to added sugar. A lot of food brands will boast whole grain, fiber filled or packed with protein, but it minimizes how much sugar you are actually consuming. The answer… Juice! When you juice instead of eating a full meal something amazing happens. Your body is able to absorb and digest those nutrients instantly. By juicing you have done the hard work for your body in breaking down the food to the nutritious parts. Fiber is good for your diet, essential really, but if we juice for breakfast, we give our bodies the nutritious boost it needs.
