Dr. Huyler is a effective ER doctor. The story “Sugar” by Frank Huyler is about a couple who bring in their daughter into the ER after noticing she wasn't behaving normally. Once they explained all the symptoms to Dr. Huyler he started to ask a series of questions to get to the bottom of what could be causing her symptoms. After checking all vitals signs of the girl and asking questions to the parents he could not find anything that could be causing the symptoms they described. As he was walking out the room he thought of one more question to ask the parents “Is there any chance she might have gotten into someone's medications?”. It's take a special set of qualities and characteristics to handle everything that is thrown at them. Their specially trained to handle life and death situations daily in the ER. Even though the little girl seemed to be normal Dr. Huyler followed all the rights protocols. He did everything he could think of to come up with a diagnosis for the little girls symptoms. He was persistent and didn't just assumed it was nothing and moved on. Although he almost missed to ask that question his critical thinking and problem solving skills are what saved the daughter of the two parents. With out the discovery of the girls very low blood sugar she could of have brain damage, seizures, go into a coma or death. Huyler’s attention to detail and quick thinking prevented any harm to the little girl and potentially saved her
