I agree with Aristotle’s statement about how suffering and death in literature leave the audience to feel relieved rather than depressed. At the end of the story, the author created this built up tension with everyone getting ready for the manhunt and as George was talking to Lennie. At the end of the story, similar to when Candy waited for his dog to die until he could peacefully sleep, the tension was immediately released from the story when George did shot him. Feeling this release of tension once it happened made me feel relieved because neither Lennie nor George would have to suffer anymore. Lennie wouldn’t have to suffer of constant bullying by Curley and people questioning his mental state, and George would be free to have the true responsibilities
