Sueños Sin Fronteras

Decent Essays
As a Quest Ambassador, I advocate for the program in my extracurriculars such as Sueños sin Fronteras and talk to high schools students in the Sueños sin Fronteras program, as well as those from my high school and city, about QB's pre-college and College Match programs.

Last year during the Sueños sin Fronteras program, I was a group leader as well as a presenter. After I finished my PowerPoint, one of the students in my group came up to me afterwards with questions about QuestBridge. She was interested in applying but was wary if she should. I spent all of lunch telling her and the others in my group about why they all should apply. Later in the evening when the parents came to pick up the students, she told me she would start her application

It would be the greatest honor to be a TRIO SSS transfer mentor for Wenatchee Valley College students. I am interested in being a transfer mentor because as a first-generation college student I understand that being a first-generation student of color comes with barriers, but also gives me a unique and valuable perspective with which to bring to higher education. My parents only have an elementary education and have no understanding of the U.S educational system and as the middle child of five siblings, I understand the responsibilities and pressures youth in these populations have with shouldering the burden to accessing and disseminating information to their entire family. Additionally, I understand the cultural challenges some students of color may face as many traditional households discourage pursuing…

When I was first introduced to Lambda Theta Phi Latino Fraternity Inc., certain aspects of the organization caught my attention. First and foremost, the organization promotes unity within the Latino community. Being united as Latinos is essential because together we acquire great accomplishments for the betterment of the community as well as ourselves. Moreover, being united provides the opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities as Latinos and break the barriers society has imposed upon us. For me, being able to interact with Latinos at UNCG, through this organization, and having the opportunity to meet individuals who demonstrate valuable character is of great importance.…

Most know Ronald Reagan best for his acting career and presidency, but not many look back to his past and sees how his leadership roles started early in life; which is where mine starts. Throughout my life, leadership has always been a part of me, I have always strained to help others and try to lead them the right way. Trying my hardest has helped me make a great impact to those around me by showing them what can be done. When I was in eighth grade, a new opportunity was given to my class to take a high school course early, and I decided to be one of the few to go through with it, knowing it would be a lot of work. I started thinking about how this could be a benefit to me.…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…
