Parents and caregivers of the world, did you know that nearly 4,000 infants die each year because of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death syndrome? It’s time for us to take charge of our children’s safety, and stop messing around with products that just don’t perform as promised. Products like the Angelcare baby monitor are fantastic in theory, but they leave a lot to be desired. Nobody wants to wake up in a panic to a false alarm in the middle of the night. With the Smart Crib Mattress, we’ve learned from those errors and created a superior product that prevents those mistakes from ever happening. Our secret is inside the crib mattress itself. Prior to this course, I had never put much though into product design and marketing. Now I see how complex it actually is. Most importantly, I have learned about how products need to be created with the user in mind. Unless they provide a transformative and meaningful connection for the user, they will most likely flop. Products also are more likely to succeed when they are more simple because that allows for a much easier user experience. I also learned that successful products are created to solve a problem that already exists. Having this knowledge allowed me to create the design for my own original product. I was able to look a product I already liked, assess its shortcomings, and make something that was superior. It was also helpful to know about the importance of a product being able to transcend all boundaries. The aesthetics of a product should be captivating enough to allow for its users to fall in love with it, regardless of their culture, race, religion, or language. Those concepts are what specifically opened my mind to think about my design and pitch in a broader global
