Although many know that smoking can lead to cancer and lung disease, some may smoke as a social activity or when they are stressed. “Approximately 10% of women reported smoking during the last 3 months of pregnancy” (CDC,2016). One of the main reasons a woman should not smoke before pregnancy is because of the simple fact that it will be more difficult for her to get pregnant. The mother is also susceptible to having a miscarriage if she smokes during pregnancy. The baby’s nutritional supply, the placenta, could potentially separate from the baby, causing damage and blood to both persons.
