Such Stuff As Dreams By Keith Oatley

The ideas inside our head, and our experiences, shape the world we live in; the world that is out there and is unique for us. The world that we imagine and want to change, followed by our values, and ethics of how this planet should be like. In, Such Stuff as Dreams, Keith Oatley states that through art we experience emotions, possibilities for something else. Art acts as a medium to see, feel and think in different ways, and the possibilities in how the world and ourselves could change. In the same way, design acts as a medium embodying ideas and speculative suggestions in our conception of what is possible.
One million little utopias According to Dunne and Raby, there’s no longer “one reality”. Each human being lives their own reality,

Imagination is what gives art life metaphorically. If something is not imaginative at an artistic standpoint, it has no influence over people. Consider if Shakespeare was not imaginative, his writings would not have been as valued as they are today. Art should have a limit on whether or not it should have a political or social function. In the world today, art could be interpreted very negatively and have a bad effect on society.…

In Dorothy Allison’s “This is Our World”, Allison describes how art has had such an impact on the way that she views different aspects of life. She started her essay by describing a Jesus mural behind a baptismal at a Baptist church when she was only seven years old. The mural became a very important piece of work to her and it allowed her to view art in a different way. Allison uses very descriptive language when it comes to explaining art. Later in her life she compared writing to art.…

Spiritual Journey For my paper, I will be covering and exploring scientific theories that are then applied to my personal life experiences to form a sort of hybrid story/academic research paper, which I feel suits perfectly my strong character traits of constant hesitation. I will bring to mention my personal philosophies, past/present dependency problems, acute depression, and individual spiritual experiences which were able to defy my understanding of science, and thus exist without empirical explanation. When I think of one’s reality, I try to see things from every angle, yet admittedly do not, but I am confident many others are trapped in this single-viewed paradox. I am not fond of the terms human nature and the potential assumptions…

Some may argue that art cannot express an idea since it has no context, such as that of Neil Postman in his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death. Postman argues that “unlike words and sentences, the photograph does not present to us an idea or concept about the world, except as we use language itself to convert the image to idea” (Postman 82). While he somewhat does have a point, I believe art can a lot of the time go beyond our limits of language. It is a universal tool of communication in which conforms to no language barrier. It indeed express ideas because photography for example, can show the viewer a real, vivid image that language can only…

There is a belief that products/ideas are successful and meaningful only when they are given exposure on TV, making everybody crazy of fame and show off rather than excellence and brilliance. Because of its virtual and passive nature, TV has driven us way from the real world and people, recreation and real communication. In the last page of the article, Brooks has explained the power of thinking and imagination with the example of Computer Graphicists. With the power of imagination, Computer Graphicists can sub-create worlds which can be more beautiful and meaningful than the world one has ever seen.…

Art does not convey reality. As much as it captivates us, it's fabricated and inauthentic. And yet, those stipulations are what make art so enjoyable. Every character, story or image suspends us from the real world. They offer an escape from the guidelines of our existence that ground us.…

Good design is complex and contradictory this is supported by the statement “less is a bore” and that less doesn 't mean more. By having less you lose the interesting aspects of complexity. Venturi points that the richness and complexity of modern experience needs to be expressed in our architecture. This is further supported by the statement that function doesn 't follow form and that ornaments are valuable for architecture. Ornaments in architecture have meaning, is intrinsically symbolic, and can be used to communicate ideas.…

Freedom is having the right to act, speak, or think as one wants, and having absolute freedom in creating art pieces mean that no one or no authority can censor it. Usually, authorities such as the government tend to censor art pieces at which they deem unfit and unsuitable for the public audience. The act of censoring is unfair for the artists, as it may mean that they do not have the freedom of expression through art, defeating the purpose of the artwork due to the removal of the main items of the art piece. Some artworks may even be censored either partially or totally although the artist did not have the intention to send whichever inappropriate message the authority has inferred from the art piece. However, sometimes authorities do have to censor, which some adults may disapprove of.…
