Nurses represent the greatest discipline in the health care profession. Today’s nursing leaders are challenged with demands for increased efficiency, rationalization and cost cutting. In this regard, nurse leaders must ensure high quality care while leading change with budgets, efficiency and personnel issues (Susanne Salmela, Katie Eriksson & Lisbeth Fagerstrom, 2011). Unfortunately, today’s nurses are not always prepared for taking on the leadership role. The key to creating successful nurse leaders is to create an environment that enriches leadership skills from the onset of the nursing profession.
