My Classroom Analysis

Successful differentiation is all about proper planning. If a lesson is well planned and well organized, the chances of it being difficult or going awry are significantly reduced. For me, one of the simplest ways to differentiate my lessons has been in regards to individualized pacing. Making this possible, and manageable, took a few years, however, I have it down to a workable system that allows students to work at their own pace, to an extent, without creating chaos in my classroom or adding undue stress to my workload. While I believe in students having the time they need to successfully complete an assignment, I am also a firm believer in hard deadlines and learning time management skills. Essentially the majority of my assignments are …show more content…
This plan relies very heavily on the use of technology, without which I believe I could still make this plan work, although it would look very different and potentially not be as fluid. Through the use of Schoology.com, I am able to provide students with all of the information and materials from class digitally. This means that everything needed for the completion of the assignment is readily available to them both in and out of my classroom. Schoology also allows the students to submit their work, which allows them to work from home but also allows me to see when the work was completed. So far, I have seen this allow students who, despite working hard during class were unable to finish the assignment, receive full credit where they previously might not have. I have also had students tell me that when they reviewed the material later it finally “clicked” which, for me, is fantastic. The added ability for me to grade directly on the computer and offer comments on their work has boosted student growth in my class. What I am looking forward to working toward is a far more open ended final …show more content…
What I would like to do is present students with the goal of the project and allow them to build their own project that accomplishes all goals. What this would allow is unbridled creativity on an individual level. Students would still have the option to work in groups or alone, which is almost always beneficial. The difference between this project and other would be that students would have to think about how a project will connect to the class BFEORE they complete it. This is asking them to think about the project from a completely different angle. I anticipate that this could be difficult for a multitude of reason. I plan to account for this in two ways. The first is to create a very thorough and specific rubric for students. We will go over the rubric as its own lesson so that I am able to address any confusion up front. The second way I plan to keep things in line will be to have regular check-ins with students as they work. By scheduling these days ahead of time, students will be able to split their project into smaller due dates leading up to the final due date. This will also allow me to see their progress and address any issues regarding their completion of the

What is your team’s approach to completing the project? This project is difficult for anyone to complete in an online class setting such as this. However, this is not because of any task that is assigned for this project, but because this assignment forces us to learn to effectively communicate with each other to complete a common goal. We began communicating early this week regarding what we need to accomplish in order to complete this project, and we have come to a conclusion.…

Through rigorous instruction and positive character education, Aurum Preparatory Academy Charter School (“Aurum Prep”) educates all of its students, grades 6 – 8, to succeed in high school, college, and life and to serve as the next generation of moral leaders. All students deserve a quality education regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status, and/or zip code. In 1903, W.E.B. Dubois supported the idea of the “Talented Tenth,” articulating that advancement for black people would ultimately be possible through the attainment of a rigorous education by a few. In a more fully democratic country, in which we push for the advancement of all people, and in an intellectually-based modern economy, in which advanced education provides the fullest…

For this assignment I had the opportunity to observe Renee Boucher's resource room class at Sunset High School in Beaverton. This observation was interesting and different from previous observations I have done, for this was my first time observing a high school classroom. From my understanding the students in the room were in grades 9-12. When I arrived Ms.Boucher was giving announcements for the week. Then three students did a book talk.…

The classroom setting is for, four-year-old preschool aged children. The idea behind the preschool comes from Piaget’s theory that children learn by a process of adaptation, assimilation, and then accommodation. During the first step, they interpret new stimulation in ways that fit with what they already know. As the new information assimilates, the existing knowledge modifies and creates a better match. Lastly, the child’s understanding gradually changes from the interaction with the environment.…

The content material that stood out to me most this week of that of the Ted Talk of the experiences of Japanese Americans during the war and also the experiences of Native Americans. I think this is extremely beneficial to my learning process as I frequently consider the perspectives of the African American and Latino population, but rarely are the experiences of Asian Americans and Native Americans at the forefront of my mind. In addition, the Classroom Divided was also impactful as I have also seen videos with Jane in the past and her work is greatly depicts the oppression and discrimination experiences by minority groups. The usage of the blue eyed vs brown eyed people experiment is extremely powerful and a great representation of what…

At the beginning of my final year of high school, a significant educational opportunity was introduced to me: a political science class was being offered at my high school by Merced College. I was very excited to find out about this course because of my plans to major in political science and eventually find a career in the politics. Of all possible subjects, I was very lucky to have this college course offered at my small school that otherwise would not offer opportunities like this. I had absolutely no doubts about taking the class. The course started on the night of the first day of school, and I was overwhelmed with the workload that was presented in the first class.…

I had the pleasure of teaching Sara in her 11th grade honors English class at Mark Twain High School. From the first day of class, Sara impressed me with her ability to be articulate about difficult concepts and texts, her sensitivity to the nuances within literature, and her passion for reading, writing, and creative expression- both in and out of the classroom. Sara is a talented literary critic and poet, and she has my highest recommendation as a student and writer. Sara is talented at considering the subleties within literature and the purpose behind authors' works. She produced an extraordinary year-long thesis paper on creative identity development, in which she compared works from three different time periods and synthesized cultural and historical perspectives to inform her analysis.…

Creativity, headaches, research, more headaches, and nervous breakdowns are kind words to describe my year round inside an AP Capstone classroom. Without a doubt, the class was one of a kind compared to any other classroom. Before I get into all the action I have to start from the bottom where it all started. It was a sunny summer day when I received a phone call from Ms. Puentes explaining to me what this class would be about. Based on what she said it convinced me to take the challenge.…

Throughout this semester I feel I have learned a lot about history. I feel i've learned more in this class than I did in my high school history classes. Some things I really enjoyed about this class would be the format of this class I liked your lectures and I found taking notes to be very helpful especially when it was time to take a test. I enjoy how you structured your lectures according to when the events took place I think going in order according to time makes it easier to remember. I think when you write the topics and outline of your lecture on the board and then talk about it is helpful because it makes it easy to follow along with what you're talking about.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

However, when I walked in the classroom and saw my old high school classmates Jace and Lauren, I became a bit more comfortable. I was also relieved to discover that the class was very small and the teacher was not scary at all, unlike my prior belief.…
