Siblings serve as emotional and social support for older adults. However, losing your parents by yourself makes you the only survivor and person who would suffer the loss more. During late adulthood, siblings provide an important social and emotional “insurance policy”. When a person is an only child, he or she would have to find social and emotional support in other ways. For instance, there is a numerous amount of people who live lonely lives. This contributes to anxiety for many people, and detrimental health effects. Therefore, only children would have to compensate their social support by visiting religious organizations like churches, and hobby organizations.
I expect to have a sense of ego integrity as I move into and through late adulthood, which is to feel whole and complete and satisfied with your achievements.
