Successes and Failures of Reconstruction The South was in debt after the Civil War. They also had a lot of damage done, because most battles were fought on their soil. They had a lot more to recover from than the North did. Although there were a lot of different acts passed in order to help with the Reconstruction process, many of them didn’t seem to last long or work very well. I think one thing that was successful, for the most part, seemed to be the Freemen’s Bureau. The Freemen’s Bureau was built to help people learn how to do different jobs and help them get an education. It also provided them with basic needs. One failure with the Reconstruction process and all the different laws being passed was that people started to become violent.
