By definition success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. In a way my personal definition of success does not veer too far from its original definition. Society has tricked todays generation to view success as the attainment of material and physical objects. For instance, someone can automatically be categorized as prosperous, by driving a luxury car, owning an above average home, having the ability to buy expensive stuff, and pretty much anything to do with consumerism. Unlike most, I measure success not by what a person is able to buy, but by what they have achieved, as far as personal goals, how happy they are, and most importantly how they were able to achieve their point of success.
Even though the definition of success varies on the person and their personal needs and desires, a constant way to achieve it is by hard work and dedication. In 1980, my father made a huge life changing decision to move to America and start a life here. Like millions of other immigrants, he grew up extremely poor, like no shoes no food, one tin house that fit all 9 of his brothers and sisters plus his parents, poor. Frustrated with the weak economy and no economic possibilities, my father moved to America, and never looked back. He came to America with absolutely no money, and knew not one word of English. Yet, through hard work and perseverance he able to find work, he taught himself how to hang drywall, and how to speak English. In 1993, he was able to bring my mother and myself…
