Walking steadily, I approached the stand in front of the room. The boardroom was a gigantic ballroom where the hotel used for setting up events such as the business plan competition. For the first few minute of the presentation, I did not know where to start and where to go. I took a deep breath, shut the crowd out, remembered about the rehearsal and all the practices I had in front of mirror, then suddenly everything I wanted to say became clear. Ideas started to line up logically on its own in my head. It was almost as if I saw an open highway in front of me. I first captured the audience by showing respects to all other competitors. I then thank you sponsors for making the event possible. I began my business plan presentation by explaining the niche for the business and the inspiration behind the project. I looked and told the audience in the eyes on why they might as well be customers of my business. Marketing research, statistics, and financial projections were shown. The presentation ended with the audience’s satisfied reaction: nodding and clapping. With everything that I did, I knew that I had given all I got. Minutes later after a quick hibernation in the bathroom, my friend broke into the bathroom with a loud yell: “Hey JP You Won!” At that moment, I suddenly knew why people sometimes

My outside speaker critique I attended a class where my introduction to supply chain management professor brought in Andrew Goltra who is currently the Director of Merchandising at ULine. Andrew’s presentation took about an hour or so. Andrew Goltra was a very good speaker, but there was definitely some room for improvement based off what I have learned about with presentation best practices. I could have a long list of both good and bad aspects during his presentation, but for the sake of this assignment I’m going to focus on five aspects from his speech that involved both good and bad practices. The pros of Andrew Goltra’s presentation include: how he established his credibility, usage of visual aids, and his delivery; The cons of the presentation…

In order to get the right results in this exercise, the group collaboration and team work was a very important key. A huge achievement in this competition was that I learned the marketing strategies which were very vague for me before and this was the first time I have done real time business game experience as an academic task. One big disadvantage we had in our group was that three of the co-managers were accounting majors and did not have any experience with this kind of business plan. Even though our company was not the top company in the competition, it opened a new world of knowledge for…

I realized that I have the ability to control my happiness and push its limits further by suffering and spending long nights working hard to achieve a desired goal. In addition, I observed the fine difference between happiness and its causes. Happiness is a brief memorable moment that takes one’s breath away, but the causes lie in the thrill of effort. While some people may think of event management as a degree in party planning, it is gaining credibility as a legitimate career. The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council created event management standards which also led to the definition of exactly what an event is (Robertson, 2015). An event is “a social form that organizes interaction in a distinctive way” or the “gathering of three or more people who agree to assemble for a purpose ostensibly related to the functioning of an organization or group” (Beaulie, 2004). According to Michael Auerbach, “in 2006 there were 51,000 event planners in the U.S. and 39% of those were within an event planning company” which demonstrates the grand size of the industry and its obvious importance to society (2015). The purpose of this paper is to explore a career in event planning.…
