Growing up in a big family with good financial and emotional support, I found it hard to clearly understand the definition of success. I have always assumed that I was successful because I lived in a big house and was able to get everything I wanted, but that is not the case. As I have grown up and developed as a person, I understand that success is not about the amount of money one has or the luxurious items one owns because a person can have access to many things and not be successful. People will say that Bill Gates is successful because he is a millionaire, but what really makes him successful is what he did to become a millionaire. People will say that Kim Kardashian is successful for being famous, but what is fame without purpose? Bill Gates had a vision of creating a software that could change many lives for the better; meanwhile, Kim Kardashian contributes little to society. Success is about starting from a low point in life and working up to the top. My parents always taught me that success is not based on the class one is born into. I did not really understand this until now. Success is having a good education, and working towards something that can better society. Success is being able to overcome the tragic events that life throws at people and walking out of them with a smile.
