Growing up in a big family with good financial and emotional support, I found it hard to clearly understand the definition of success. I have always assumed that I was successful because I lived in a big house and was able to get everything I wanted, but that is not the case. Success is about starting from a low point in life and working up to the top. My parents always taught me that success is not based on the class one is born into. I did not really understand this until now. Success is having a good education, and working towards something that can better society. Success is being able to overcome the tragic events that life throws at people and walking out of them with a smile.
Success is an ideal that is passed down from the experiences of ancestors and shapes the definition of success in others. The people who surround us can alter the views of success and accomplishment. It has been said that, “The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand” (Vince Lombardi). Watching my parents become successful encourages me to want to be successful as well. The only way I know how to be successful is to be educated. Education is the basis for all things. My uncle is a doctor; he lives in Ohio where he has his own practice. My uncle is successful not because he has a lot of money, but because he has knowledge that he can use to help make his life better for his family and himself. Success is about having something under the belt for the long run. If someone has a conflict going on in their lives, but still manages to overcome it, it shows determination and a desire to be successful in life. There are many obstacles in life that people will come across and it will have an impact on their lives. The way one chooses to overcome the hindrance will dictate they type of person they are. Being able to come out of a complication that has caused a difficulty in one’s life shows how determined that person is to succeed. Now that I am older and can think on my own without having to have guidance, I can see what people who have a good education go through versus the people who do not. When I see someone who is not successful, it typically is caused by being a high school dropout or they have given up on life as a whole; however, when I see someone who is successful it is most likely because they have a good education and have improved their
