Success is something everybody is striving for, no matter how old they are or how much success they have achieved. Success is the number one goal that people have. Everybody has different goals so everybody has different definitions of success. There are many things that factor in success. Sometimes success runs in the genes and parents strive to raise a successful child. The child’s dreams and self control also affect their chances at success. Success depends on people’s environments and their genes. In the United States success is based more on being born into wealth and privilege. Some people say success is all about IQ. So all people think they can do is give the brightest kids the best chance to succeed(Bond). There are two conflicting ideas about what it takes to succeed. To some people success is determined by genes. To others, success is all about nurture, about anyone can succeed when given a chance.

Self control is largely about willpower, which makes it relevant to the pursuit of achievement. Self Control is also a better predictor of exam results among adolescents than IQ scores(Bond). Students with more self-control are more likely to turn up to school on time, do their homework and watch less television, which all translated into better grades. Greater self-control in childhood grows into healthier, more emotionally stable adults. They were also better off financially. Also children who manages to stop the temptation of things, do better in high school than those who had succumbed to temptation. As adults, those able to delay gratification are also more popular with their peers, less likely to be overweight and earned higher
