What does the word success mean? Success can have different ideas for various people depending on who a person may ask; every person has an altered understanding or viewpoint for the meaning of success. The dictionary defines success as the accomplishment of one’s goal; the desired result of an attempt; or one that succeeds. Maybe to better understand what success means, one may need to know the definition of failure. Failure means the fault or weakness of something. When someone fails, it may affect a person in a negative way, or it may help them grow as a person. The most valuable lessons can come from failures. Like Dale Carnegie said, “Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.” When we succeed at something, we feel a sense of accomplishment because we know we have done something correct. You may see someone rich or famous and think they are successful, but are they really? To be successful, one must possess particular traits and set goals.

Success may be attained through inventions, sports, becoming a leader, and the list could go on and on. Even though each person in our society may have different interpretations or viewpoints of the definition of success, they all basically have the same meaning. It does not make a difference if one reaches success at the age of eighteen or at the age of fifty; we all should be ready to be successful at some point in our lives. One can see that if we possess particular traits and are successful in any of our goals, success will happen. If we continue to push forward towards our goals and show the world we can do it, we will achieve true success through knowledge and patience.
