Success at a Cost
“Not personal? That is my work! My sweat! My time away from my kids! If that's not personal, I don't know what is.” Erin Brockovich is poor, uneducated, and the mother of three young children with no spouse to support her. Even with all of these going against her, Erin is still successful. Her accomplishments throughout the film are due to her persistence and her ability to influence others, however, her success comes at the cost of children.
The main characteristic that sticks out about Erin is her persistence. The audience first sees this in the opening scene when Erin is applying for a job in the medical field with no previous experience in that profession. It is fairly obvious that Erin is not going to get the job, but she tries her absolute hardest to win over the doctor, but to no avail. When Erin did not understand the information for the PG&E case she drives out to the country to investigate. She even goes to UCLA to talk to a scientist about the toxicology report. Erin could have just given up trying to understand the file since it was not vital for her job, yet she persisted. “ ‘Course,

Also when her and Ed needed about 150 more people to testify, Erin went door to door and get that many people to come forward. Lastly, and most importantly Charles come forward with the documents that PG&E told him to burn. Charles does this because “I feel like I can talk to you too. Like you’re a person I can say anything to…” The only way that Erin was able to do this was because she charmed everyone she

Quote 1 “What’s really incomprehensible, she adds, are middle-class or wealthy working mothers in the United States. These women, she says, could tighten their belts, stay at home, spend all their time with their children. Instead, they devote most of their waking hours and energy to careers, with little left for the children. Why, she asks, with disbelief on her face, would anyone do that?”(Prologue xi).”…

Two perturbed reporters, Erin Cunningham and Serena Elavia both concur on how media such as photography and reality television can affect the health and well being of not only young girls and women, but the famous reality stars people religiously watch today. Cunningham and Elavia are able to agree and concentrate on three key points: views from the general public, poor behavior of the people behind the lens, and the potential health issues. According to author Erin Cunningham in “Our Photoshopping Disorder”, a former Hollywood marketing executive Seth Matlins always tried to vision the world through his daughter's eyes and conjectured what kind of woman she would one day become. Matlin contemplated the various obstacles that could possibly interfere in his daughters way for her to grow up and become like any other father would want “sustainably happy woman”.…

This is first shown when Peg is covering up Edwards scars on his face she says “The concealing cream goes on first. Then you blend, and blend, and blend. Blending is the secret”. The film Freedom Writers incorporates various elements of intercultural communication that were discussed throughout the semester, which is why I chose to analyze this film and focus on how the concepts discussed in this course are portrayed in the film. This film is centered on gangs and racial tensions so many elements of intercultural communication are touched upon and integrated into the central theme. Three major issues I chose to examine in this film were the concepts of co-culture, culture shock, and stereotypes. These three concepts are included throughout the duration of the film and are witnessed in numerous scenes. All three of these concepts have a significant effect on the underlying motive of the film.…

To begin with, the case I decided to write about is the Eric Garner case which I feel strongly about. This incident took place in Staten Island, New York on July 17th 2014. It all started when the police officers approached Mr. Garner about selling untaxed cigarettes and tried making an arrest. Eric Garner then tried to explain to the law enforcement officers that he hasn’t done anything. As the officer tried to make an arrest with resistance from the victim, he then wrapped his arm around the 43 year old’s neck.…

She walks in and thinks that the students care about being there when in reality they don`t. The film also shows unrealistic scenes such as Erin working three jobs to support her students. Although that is generous, working three jobs is not realistic. Another unrealistic scene is when the class flys the women that hid Anne Frank during the Holocaust down to speak to the class. That is very admiring and a good dramatic effect to the film, but also lacks realistic…
