Subwoofers are four-sided boxes that contain various types of technology used to create those deep, reverberating bass sounds heard in audio systems. Not only can a good subwoofer improves audio fidelity, but they can also allow you to feel the penetrating power of the bass sound in your very core.

Although everyone wants the best subwoofer possible, not everybody knows which one qualifies as best for their unique needs. Although most soundbars and HTIB systems (home theater in a box) are designed to include subwoofers, they oftentimes do not measure up to users standard requirements.

Here are a few tips to help you select the right subwoofer.

Generally, the bigger the subwoofer box, the more sound you are likely to get. Although small-sized subwoofers can sometimes work in small rooms, most of the time it's wise to choose larger subwoofers with a lot of power or even several subwoofers in various locations. Although there are no rules, a 12-inch, over 100-watt subwoofer may be a good minimum starting point for regular sized rooms.

Positioning Matters
When purchasing a subwoofer, keep in mind that where you place it in your room can make a huge difference in how it performs. For example, placing the subwoofer next to a wall or in a corner will increase volume. You can also try moving subwoofers to various locations in your room to discover what works best.

Equalization Processing

Certain brands of subwoofers come equipped with EQ equalization processing, a feature which allows users to adjust frequencies. Although this feature has merits, it won't completely fix the qualities of an inferior subwoofer or correct poor placement.
