The zip code 30114 is located in Cherokee County, a north metro Atlanta county which contains the cities of Woodstock, Canton, Ball Ground, Holly Springs and Waleska. The issue of suburban sprawl is the most pressing problem in the 30114 zip code. I choose this zip code as opposed to the zip code where I live 30064, because I'm constantly observing and critiquing sociological information where I live, so I choose to observe a different area from a sociological perspective. My boyfriend lives in this zip code so I am in the area frequently and observe the constant changes and problems that are occurring as this area is developing rapidly.

Frumkin argues “if the phenomenon known as commuting stress affects well-being and social relationships both on the roads and off, and if this set of problems is aggravated by increasingly long and difficult commutes on crowded roads, then sprawl may in this manner threaten mental health” (2002: 208). Public transportation in many parts of Georgia is very complex and tend to be not as useful as people desire. Cherokee county currently has a public transportation system, but it only remains within the county. All public transportation busses, including rideshare, are allowed to use the HOV or Peach Pass lanes for free in the state of Georgia. These Peach Pass lanes are included in one of the largest current highway developments in the state. The project is called the Northwest Corridor which is a new highway structure that has a toll. This project is expanding from the new Braves stadium in Cobb County and continues north all the way to the city of Holly Springs, which is included in this zip code. The development of the Northwest Corridor toll lane is more a convenience for the wealthy to be able to use it and afford the ease of faster commute times. With the additional lane being built alongside interstate 575, I would implement rideshare stops. The rideshare programs allow commuters to park at a designated area and take a scheduled bus ride for a low fare to their destination, which tend to be places that are most impacted by high volumes of traffic. By implementing more of the rideshare stops along each entry and exit point of the new toll lane and encourage more development of these stops in the zip code as a whole, it would greatly reduce the amount of commuting stress Frumkin refers to and in addition would help by lowering the amount cars
