Substance Use Assessment Paper

Professor and Classmates,
The best first step to take when beginning to work with a client struggling with substance use is to do an assessment. Based on the assessment the therapist will know where the client needs help. The therapist will get a better understanding of the client cultural views once he/she is completing the assessment. Once the therapist has completed the assessment the therapist needs to let the client know they have a problem with substance use. Many clients will not accept that they have a problem. Counselor need to be aware of the cultural consideration because in some cultures they think that drinking two beers at a day is not a problem because they are able to get up the next day without a problem.
