Research I researched several articles and the agencies to prove that personal hygiene products are needed for those entering treatment. It gives the reason that addicts need these products, also. I gave some statistics about addiction in Kansas and about ATC and WRH. The economic aspect of addiction, which is the amount of money spent nationally, is very high. According to National Institute on Drug Administration (NIDA), the overall costs spent nationally for illicit drugs, alcohol, and tobacco is 712 billion dollars (2016). In 2013, the amount of American illicit drug users was 24.6 million people (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHA), 2013). Of those entering treatment 67.3% were males and 32.7% were female (Recovery Connection, 2016). The Addiction Treatment Center serves approximately 350 to 400 people a year, and 45% of those entering treatment need personal hygiene products. Michelle York stated the Addiction Treatment Center (ATC) needs personal hygiene products (M. York, personal communication, September 28, 2016). Pam Whetzell from the Women’s Renewal House stated it serves approximately 200 women a year, and that 85% to 90% arrive needing some kind of personal hygiene products (P. Whetzell, personal communication, September 28, 2016). Amy Larson stated the Women’s Renewal House needs personal hygiene products including tampons (A. Larsen, personal communication, August 25, 2016). Some products needed are toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, body soap, towels, and washcloths to help the agencies provide for their clients.
