I feel that substance abuse is often an act of attention or a way to escape responsibility. Either way I feel that by addressing the individual and their family about the issue and educating them on how to best recover from it rather than only focusing on the user that this allows for a more comprehensive recovering instead of placing complete focus on users.
Ideally, I believe that all drugs and alcohol, both legal and illegal with the exception of necessary medical prescriptions, should be banned and shown a zero tolerance towards it. Although I understand this to be unrealistic, as long as someone is a functional alcoholic or drug user that can maintain a career and not show harm to themselves or others, then it shouldn’t be of much concern
