Substance abuse is perilous, but why do so many young athletes do drugs? There are number of reasons: maybe there is a big game coming up and player can not handle and stress or binge drink after a long school day or practice. Substance abuse is a widespread issue in sports that needs solving. Many teens turn to alcohol, performance drugs, and even narcotics to solve their problems in sports, and the harm is unimaginable, more than you might think.
Taking enhancing drugs is pure cheating. You can get you kicked out of sports for taking these drugs, many big sports franchises like the NCAA often do drug tests on players and this is not something that is unknown, people have been getting thrown out of sports for using steroids and or other drugs. …show more content…

With this many children are getting their hands on very dangerous drugs to cope with the stress of sports. Some might say that if you can’t handle the stress then you should not play . But that is completely wrong you have probably had really high stress at times, maybe before sports events. And studies from the American Psychological Association show that most Americans over the past five years have had more stress, and this can carry over from sports to many children, have experienced stress in sporting competitions. Narcotics like this can lead to outbursts that are dangerous to everyone around them. These type of drugs impair your decision making and lead to very poor choices by the on the court and off. Nearly all drugs target your Dopamine system. Dopamine is like a reward system for your brain it tells when it likes something, and drugs overload that system and causing an addiction that makes you want more substances. Then after long-term drug use changes the chemicals in your brain and makes you lose control of your thinking and decision making, and can make the user seek out drugs compulsively as specified by (WebMd paragraph
