Substance abuse is a nation-wide phenomenon – with an increase in both drug users and manufacturers in Canada, effective harm reduction strategies are in high demand (Howlett, Giovannetti, Vanderklippe, & Perreaux, 2016; Kerr et al., 2009; Lunn & Zimonjic, 2016; CBC News, 2009). In addition, academic sources will be concurrently examined to critically evaluate the controversy behind supervised injection sites. The tools we will be utilizing for this method will include, academic journals, newspaper articles, online blogs, and statistic logs that contain information regarding Insite. As a result, this information will provide us with statistics (eg. number of clients making use of the program), as well as records of the different perceptions associated with the facility (eg. public, media, business, and government). Each group member will be participating in gathering data, with an average of 1 to 2 hours of collection per member
Data Coding and Analysis Our data collection will involve looking at re-emerging public opinions and themes surrounding the perception of Insite. As a result, we will be able to obtain an understanding of opposing viewpoints, as well as the reasoning behind them. Our data analysis will follow an inductive approach in which observations will be made to indicate possible patterns on public opinion and perception of Insite.
