Family Relationships with Addicts The topic I choose is Substance Abuse in this area I find Alcohol and Other Drugs Abuse and Dependence Affects Family Relationship most interested. I have lived to see this with my own eyes throughout my family while growing. It is something that has touched and changed me forever. It used to be this way since it kept them around the family. My opinion now is no, it’s not the most important thing in my family for the abuser to get enough of his substance of choice because after losing two brother and still want to hurt your family is not okay. My family has tried to get him help, and make things better on numerous occasions. But then again it seems that nothing will work. I know that an abuser can’t just say okay I’m done and never turn back it’s not that easy. Friends can come and go, but family is family no matter what the situation is. But yes, there will always be that one family member to try hold it together in the end and in my family, that would be my father and grandmother. Also at times it comes to the point where enough is enough after you see that nothing is working and the abuser won’t put the initiative in changing for the better. After many trips to rehabs every time they turn around and sign their selves out of rehab.
