Dr. Scott Walters at the university of north Texas health and science institution collaborated with Faye taxman a criminologist from George Manson university and several others similar, to developed an online software called MAPIT (Motivational Assessment Program to Initiate Treatment) designed to help probations developed and reach new family, economic, social, and religious goals. MAPIT has three behavioral targets 1) drug abuse, 2) probation consistence, and 3) HIV testing and healthcare. A wide range of theories and models have been used in this substance abuse change intervention. Among them are, Social Cognitive Theory, Trans theoretical Model, Theory of Planned Behavior, and Health Belief Model. MAPIT fits into a classification of influential innovation that is intended to change mentalities and behaviors through support instead of compulsion. The eventual goal is reducing substance abuse and criminal behavior, and increasing the number of people who obtain HIV testing and care. In support of the nature of research on Project MapIt, as I see it this hypothesis was upheld with study adequacy, randomized controlled trial looking at and drug abuser’s cooperation and criticism. These discoveries showed that the intercession diminished the urge of smoking among offenders.
