Subliminal Persuasion

Subliminal messages are sensations that can subtly influence people by slipping below one's absolute threshold for conscious awareness. As mentioned in our textbook, "subliminal sensations are a fact" (pg 233) but subliminal persuasion is a different story. In this prompt, the friend believes that subliminal messages have a long lasting effect, when, in reality, they have a subtle, fleeting effect. Double-blind research done by Anthony Greenwald and his colleagues in 1991 showed that subliminal messages did not change any of the subjects' behavior regarding self-esteem and memory-enhancement.
