Lemon-soured light penetrated the city and it rested like some gargantuan beast, overpowering the distant horizon. Once again I was the first to wake, untangling myself from sheets I stood, staring out over the city. As we left the building I navigated the littered streets of Sub-Faction 13, home to the hopeless all you could see were dilapidated buildings and smoke that has foul suffocating smell that leave …show more content…
Girmaldi and his class division left Faction 13 a landscape of smokestacks and slums, while the elite lived in golden, pristine fortresses looking down upon the remains of a society. Ever since Girmaldis medical breakthrough, in extending life expectancy by 300 years, he had won the hearts of the people and many powerful men. Despite the increase in longevity, our bodies continued to age, weren’t immune to all illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer's disease. Our society's ability to provide food, shelter and medical care has consquently collapsed and widespread looting and riots are common. When the upper-class noticed society crumbling they fled with their new technology created by Girmaldi. He ended up becoming the most powerful man and created a system that was implemented by fear. The rise of Girmaldi resulted in the city being lost to the dogs and the filth that contaminated the streets. Since my father’s death my brother and I were living by stealing from shopkeepers, reselling their products and sleeping in abandoned buildings. Crime was on every corner in Sub-Faction 13. I always told William to stay back and wait for me metres away from shops when I robbed stores so he wasn’t at

As I stared across the bullet-torn battlefield I wondered how I ended up here; hiding behind a crumbling wall, clutching my gun as though it were a lifeline. How the young kid I'd once been now bore a dirty, camouflage patterned uniform. There I was, contemplating my life in the middle of a battle. I shouldn't have been surprised when a hand suddenly shot out in front of my face and smacked me upside the head. It was so unexpected that I nearly stumbled out from behind the rubble and right into the bullet whizzing by.…

Buildings were abandoned almost daily, and as a result, empty lots sprawled over the city like weeds in gardens. Dark clouds had permanent residents in the sky, no matter the season. News of violent deaths were commonplace, and every time one was announced, you only hoped and prayed it wasn’t someone you knew. For almost half of my life, that environment was an aspect of my very being.…

I see mere shapes and speak but madness; the language I had once known as meaningless as a singular grain of sand on a sprawling shore. Life is but a farce, a fable constructed by the imagination of others.…

We arrived in the middle of the night, almost in secret. When we were a couple miles away, we could see dimmed lights up ahead. The closer we got, the brighter they shined our way. Throughout human history and even continuing today we have seen societal changes, whether for better or for worse; society never stays the same for very long. As we 've seen throughout Europe this semester change is often sparked through the poor conditions of the lower classes, such conditions as we 've seen during the industrial revolution for example. Unfortunately most societal change if not all has only been obtained through bloody fights and the loss of human life. Although these changes take a step in the right direction, they never solve all of society 's problems, though the existence of such a solution may not exist. These changes, please the general public for a while , but inevitably society reenters a cycle of oppression and…
