Lets just get one thing straight, currently I am a maths core student. One of the biggest decisions at the end of the grade 9 journey is the choice between maths literacy and maths core.
Maths literacy has been classified as the subject for stupid people, for those who are not capable of pure maths. Yes of course as we know it maths core is a lot harder, but is it more practical? Are we going to use it when we set out on our new life journey after matriculating? Will we use maths core to pay our electricity bills, or pay off the bond on our house or work out what tax is all about?
I was determined to take maths literacy my whole high school career but at the end of Novermmber I achieved an overall agrigate of 76% so I thought why not give maths core a shot? This year has not been too challenging but when I look at my work compared to the lit girls, its, completley different. Instead of being taught how to factorise and simplify algebraic, fractions they are being taught things you will need in life, the benefits and down falls of hire-purchase goods, how many litres of paint I will need to paint a room or even how much intrest I will be paying on that loan I took out to buy that brand new TV? …show more content…
The biggest dilema asked is, will I get into univeristy still if I take maths literacy. And if your take maths literacy it does shut a few doors, But there is always a way around it.
