Stun Grenade: A Short Story

The ringing in my ear and the white in my eyes were no sounds of heaven, but of war. It was not the angel’s coming down from above to take me back up, but it was the aftermath of a M84 Stun Grenade. This affected the whole unit, even outside the door frame. They stood there blindly, Jackson’s finger was tight on the trigger. After it cleared, Jackson rushed to the right side of the door and his leading officer, Garrison, stood ready on the left side. The other two officers in his unit, Prince and Rodriguez stood in a crossfire, barrels aimed at the door. “Prince!” said Garrison, “Get the hammer out.” Prince followed his orders, and took out the massive 20 pound sledge.
5, today is not the day.
4, “Prince, hit it!”
3, BANG
2, “One more time Prince!”

Fought for him, killed for him. But it wasn’t his time yet.
“There you go buddy.” said Rodriguez. “Are you hurt, no bullet wounds, no burns, no anything?”
“I'm fine.”
They were in a control room in a warehouse. It was more of a greenhouse, majority of the room was made of glass, except for the floor. A collection of bodies were on the floor, and in the middle was an office chair, with a rope tied in a loose knot. No hostage.
In the corner, Garrison was on the phone, probably calling in for intel. Jackson took the time now to take out my locket. It had three pictures: His wife, his unit, and a cross.
It was ironic really, he grew up in the suburbs of San Francisco, he went to a Christian school, strived to be spread peace like he did, but here he was, doing the opposite. The feeling in his stomach each time a bullet escapes his nine millimeter never felt like doing the right thing. He was cold blooded, like a snake. He don’t choose to bite, he just had to. Every person that he stung with his venom had a mother, a father, maybe a brother or a sister. He couldn’t do it anymore. This was his last assignment anyways, after this he shall not kill
