Study Design
Subjects
The subjects that will be involved in the research include the entire GCMS high school student body, parents of GCMS students in all three schools, and the GCMS teacher staff. The high school students and teacher staff will be sent a survey through their email accounts because that is the quickest and simplest way for large responses. They are being surveyed because they are the main people impacted from Common Core. Due to the fact that parents’ emails are not available, the parents answered their survey through a link that was posted on the GCMS Facebook page. The reason for also surveying the parents is to see if Common Core has impacted homelife.
Instruments
The three surveys sent out are all very similar with only a few different questions added …show more content…
Through research it was discovered that although Common Core has its downfalls, it is more beneficial than not. Common Core will help with critical thinking skills, college and career readiness, and provide an equal set of standards for the nation.
Although teachers did state that they were lacking creativity in their classrooms. An easy solution to this would be for teachers to get together to discuss how they can fix this issue. The teachers could also discuss ways to approach certain lessons to help make these difficult topics easier for students.
Secondly, it would be very helpful if there was a meeting for parents to come to the school and learn firsthand on what exactly Common Core is, because there seems to be some confusion on what exactly is does. Students are also not informed on what Common Core is, which is very upsetting because Common Core influences their education every day. To resolve this issue, the administration could have a quick assembly to inform students on what the overall plan
