STUDY TWO: THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE
Jesus Passion to share His Grief
(Matthew 26:36; Mark 14:32; Luke 22:39)
1.2.1 The Warning

WARNING: Christians learn to PRAY! Prayer is Jesus’ PASSION.
Prayer discovers the Father’s will. The alternative is to fall into temptation (as in the Garden of Eden). Jesus needs to reverse Adam’s fall and it will burden His soul to breaking point. Jesus would suffer the trauma of a world cut off from God. Are we a church asleep, in denial of the power of Jesus’ cross to deliver from deceit and destruction? Christ’s PASSION hits the full force of reality as the traitor approaches. This is the “dark night of the soul”. This is Jonah in the belly of the whale. Chanting Psalm 18:45; 116:4 “The snares of death encompass me, the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me, and I suffered distress and anguish. Unlike Jesus, Jonah had no ‘passion’ to obey God but God broke him (see Jonah chapter 2) and he saw a city turned to God in sackcloth and ashes. Are we ready to have God do this to us?

Writing about Jesus’ crucifixion, she highlights the characters’ emotions. With small details, she adds to the story so children can understand the feelings of Jesus, like his grief on the cross when he says, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” (Luke 23:46). Keeping these things accurate, she stays close to the Biblical account. And she does not lose sight of the original meaning of the passage.…

INTRODUCTION After reading the final portion of Markets of Sorrow, Labors of Faith by Vincanne Adams, something has become clear to me. It is not necessarily the government’s fault for the recovery issues. Rather, the problem at hand is the privatization of these private sector markets and other governmental services. The government is at fault for not preventing all the harm caused by Katrina (by not building levees that would hold) and also for not assisting the people’s suffering post-Katrina.…

Anselment (1989) claims that grief in the 17th century is instinctive rather than a modified behaviour, contrary to the arguments of some 20th century historians. He illustrates this through the use of “seventeenth-century letters, memoirs and diaries” that attempted to express the grief felt by those in the 17th century. He states that none of the historical evidence provides proof for Aries’s popular suggestion that parents would seek refuge from pain and sorrow through impersonal belief that death was common amongst their children. On the other hand he argues that Stone’s view on “the period’s gradual transition” towards creating a more personal feeling of grief, was only partly accountable. He concluded that he believed that grief was…

It says in the book of acts that "and they said, believe on the lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, And thy house" (act 16:31, KJV). Looking back on my passed five years of knowing Jesus I would describe it as a rollercoaster ride. Back in sixith grade I was going through a transition from Crosswalk to Hang time, Elementary School to middle school, and ultimately finding who I was and knowing Jesus. It was my 2011 Hangtime Winter Whiteout when I accepted Jesus into my life. Every year we do this thing called " Cry Night " that Winter Whiteout in particular we watched clips from "The Passion of Christ " and it was to the song " How He Loves " by David Crowder.…

This is the same as the ‘the dark night of the soul’ in Christianity. Just like the way the soul loses its way in the quest for salvation it deprives itself from the light. Meaning just as Shakespeare had resorted his cruelty towards his beloved he had deprived himself from the real issue at hand. His actions had only brought more sorrow than happiness (Landry,…

“Our enemies have made the mistake that America’s enemies always make. They saw liberty and thought they saw weakness. And now, they see defeat.” George W. During that fateful day I was glued to my poorly constructed high school chair, gazing in disbelief what was unfolding on Mr. Cox’s History class television.…

Due to my working hours, l can’t be there when my son’s come home from school, so my wife will have them call me at work shortly after they arrive. When my son’s and I converse generally we talk about the events of their day. recently my oldest son (13) calls and tells me of a bully who has called him names and my son is asking what he should do, how should he respond? It was during this conversation that the words of Jesus from John 15 ran through my mind: 18 “If the world hates you, [e]you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.…

From the beginning in the Garden of Eden, it has been God’s plan to allow us to find redemption and to give us choice. “Adam’s test in the garden points toward the testing of Christ, although Adam’s disobedience turns the parallel into contrast.” (Clowney, 2013, p. 29) I have to wonder if the all-knowing God hoped that Adam and Eve would listen, and not commit the sin, thus condemning all of humanity, and Himself, to this struggle. The flip side of is that if Adam and Eve had chosen differently, and not brought sin here, this place would, in turn, cease to be the learning ground that it is, for us as sentient beings.…

By examining a piece of literature, a reader can discover multiple patterns that enhance the story, their understanding of the piece and the experience it brings in general. The novel, How to Read Literature like A Professor, by Thomas C. Foster, describes and discusses many, varying patterns. One pattern he calls, “acts of communion”, explains how food and meals in a literary work can have a more significant purpose than just eating normally suggests. In addition, this novel discussed the uses of Christ figures in literature and the different characteristics that suggest the author’s intentions on comparing a character in their work with Jesus Christ. Both of these patterns are shown in the novel, A Lesson Before Dying, by Ernest J. Gaines.…

The Meaning of Jesus is authored by two friends, Marcus Borg and Tom Wright, who have debated their opinions, respectfully, over the years. While they take different approaches, they respect and look at each other’s views fairly and face their different points directly. Obviously, if you find the idea of the Bible unbelievable, The Meaning of Jesus will seem boring, but if you are open to the possibility of, or find the Bible intriguing and interesting, or even a slight interest in finding a middle ground, these authors are perfect for you to read. Both are familiar with the literature of the New Testament, but can give simplistic explanations that everyone can relate to and understand. Something most Christians struggle with is the stance the church may take on the Bible versus ancient texts: stories that seem like they would be dismissed as fictional are accepted.…

Introduction into this book and videos covers how we need to set long term goals, but before doing so we need to ask ourselves some questions. Before we can set those goals we should seek to know Christ. This can be done by reading the four gospels and seeing what Jesus did, what we can learn from him, and how does it relate to us? Jesus’ last commandment was to go and make disciples, and while principles never change, our methods have to change in order to reach the current generation, and each beyond. As we get into the chapters we learn that men are God’s method and while they may seem unlearned or ignorant by man’s standards, God uses those willing to learn and raises them into leadership.…
