The comic illustrations by Jamal Igle and cover art by Khary Randolph is already making waves in the comic world. Black was created early last year thanks to a quick funding from a Kickstarter campaign.
Smith and Osajyefo are former Marvel and DC digital editors and now, they are the co-producers of the film along with Matteo Pizzolo of Black Mask Studios. Since its inception in 2013, Black Mask has been attracting attention for its series Calexit which depicts a series of civil war which was co-authored by Pizzolo and Amancay Nahuelpan.
Meanwhile, Studio 8 was founded by former Warner Bros. executives in 2014 and has a distribution deal with Sony. The Black project wasn’t the first time Studio 8 has dabbled with the comic universe. In fact, they previously acquired a film project for Scout created and written by Timothy Truman, a comic book artist.
Studio 8’s film adaptation of Black is definitely something fans can look forward to. As of the moment, the director, cast, production and release date is yet to be announced.

Though Denzel Washington won an Oscar for Training Day in 2001, Sexton contends that this was merely an “awkward…cultural redress” for the lack of proper acknowledgement regarding his work in “respectable” black roles, such as Malcolm X (40). By rewarding a rather stereotypically fraught performance with the highest acting honor, the Academy sends a rather disturbing message regarding what they “deem accomplished black cinema” (45). Though Fuqua is a black director who “may call the shots,” the “financial underwriters…have the first and final word;” and unfortunately, “production…remains firmly a white monopoly” (48; 47). With Hollywood maintaining an overly “white-washed” executive head, we are rewarded with black representations that merely…

According to the writings of Stephen Biko who was the leader of the Black Consciousness Movement that originated in south Africa, “Black Consciousness is an attitude of the mind and a way of life, the most positive call to emanate from the Black world for a long time. It’s essence is the realisation by the Black Man of the need to rally together with his brothers around the cause of their oppression - the Blackness of their skin - and to operate as a group to rid themselves of the shackles that bind them to perpetual servitude”. I understood Black Consciousness as a state of awareness that acknowledges, identifies and carries the culture of the ancestral roots of Africa. In addition to this Black Consciousness is being able to have the perception of the oppression placed the community and to be liberated from it.…

Ryan Coogler was also concerned with creating a multidimensional character when he crafted Fruitvale Station. The film tells the last day in the life of Oscar Grant, a young unarmed black man who was murdered by police on New Years in 2009 at a BART station in Oakland, California. The event struck Coogler hard. He was still in college when it happened, and the shooting took place in the community he grew up in. Much like the rest of the directors, Coogler’s personal relations to the material is what makes it work.…

The studio system is the organization of power in the studio companies. Prior to 1931, there was a central producer who overall controlled things. He would have associate supervisors to handle the day to day operations of film production. In 1931, the studio system of central producers saw its retirement and a new system was adopted. This system was called the producer-unit system.…

The definition of a black film would seem to be an easy standard to mutually agree on. Films about the people and culture of the African diaspora would satisfy most definitions, but issues arrive when black people are poorly represented and stereotyped or when the definition excludes other cultures from discussing black culture when they could also give a fair and thoughtful representation in Black Cinema. Thomas Lott argues that it can be hard to identify what makes quality black films because there must be an analysis of the separate concepts blackness and cinema. In his article “ “A No-Theory Theory of Contemporary Black Cinema,” Lot provides a compelling reason why his no theory approach provides a satisfying and open-ended approach to defining Black Cinema. Lott references Thomas Cripps’ Black film as Genre, Cripps to discuss a proposed definition of Black films to be defined as movies produced, written, directed, performed by, and performed for black people.…

The movies 8 Mile and Step Up suggest people cross racial lines by the use of characters Jimmy “B Rabbit” Smith Jr. in 8 Mile and Tyler Gage in Step Up. Tyler is portrayed by Channing Tatum, and Jimmy “B Rabbit” Smith Jr. is portrayed by Eminem. Tyler Gage is good at dancing and B Rabbit is good at rapping. These are both white characters that possess a talent in something that only African American are stereotypically considered to be good at. I believe both of these movies cross racial lines because they use characters that prove that African Americans are not the only people who can be good at rapping or dancing.…

Hollywood has spent years making movies, attracting an audience and making profit from their projects, but if there’s one thing has that has been missing from Hollywood and that 's been complete diversity. Ever since Hollywood 's upbringing and even still today, the business has underplayed minority actors and actress.
