Room 302 Reflection

Everyday is a special day in room 302. We attempt to be very organized and lessons may be very thorough, but every day is a different day. We have a diverse group of individuals that require additional support and services in the regular education settings. My class consists of students that are very academically engaged, some receive learning support, some are co-programmed with the life support class, and a few behavior concerns, but I strongly agree that students with significant cognitive disabilities can effectively learn academic content from being in the general education classroom (Kleinert, H. pg. 326). We may face several obstacles when attempting to teach students with various disabilities in the least restrictive environment. 323). Students may be considered full-time, supplemental or itinerant when receiving support. Collecting data is very key when requesting additional services or changing placements. Having the states submit their data electronically is a great idea (pg. 317). We submit our participation in state and local assessments and the amount of special education support provided on the students IEP. We use an electronic program called, “Sapphire Suite.” At each IEP meeting, the team also discusses and records accommodations in order for our students to become more successful in the general education settings. Some of following accommodations that maybe implemented are as follows: Direct instruction, small group instruction, modeling, chunking of materials, frequent breaks, slant boards, test read aloud, modified homework or assignments, verbal/non-verbal prompts, immediate feedback, visual cues, and maybe behavioral management plans to improve target
