Students should be required to take a foreign language class to increase global understanding, to improve employment potential, and to improve chances of college and/or graduate school entry. That is only some of the reasons behind this claim though. Foreign languages are important. If you know even one foreign language you will have a lot more opportunities in life. Learning a new language can increase global understanding. For example learning a new language gives the learner of that specific language a chance to step inside of the mind and context of that culture. It would be great a idea to take a foreign language without it being required to so you can have a head start on foreign languages and a more indepth understanding. Also 52.7% of Europeans are fluent in both their native tongue and at least one other language. However, only 9.3% of Americans are fluent in both their native tongue and one other language. If people learn a new language then they can communicate with others. They would be able to supply goods and services, ensure international security and the ability to cooperate with others. All businesses are looking for people who are proficient in other languages. Such skills are needed in the following service industries; hotels, tourism, food, publishers, and entertainment industries also; films, radio, and sound production, corporate offices with overseas accounts and; and also in other areas such as medicine, law, business, journalism, and general government work.
