Many teachers around the United States deal with students that disrupt their class, or have behavior that is not appropriate on a day-to-day basis. Unfortunately, many students are penalized because their unsettling behavior hinders their own and other students learning. These behaviors can include being disruptive, using their cell phone, sleeping in class, challenging the teacher/ instructors knowledge on a particular subject, and many more. Therefore, students should be penalized to a certain extent for this kind of behavior because it in fact makes it hard on both students and instructors. However, students grades should be based on how they retain the information, not on their behavior. First off, students who partake in this kind of …show more content…
Students should be penalized for doing this because it can cause them to fall behind in class study causing them to lower their grades. Another con to having students use their cell phones in class, is that they could be using it for cheating. Many students do not think twice about having their cell phones in their pockets, and many classes are big enough where students may feel as if they would never be caught cheating with their phone. However, if students are using their phones at the appropriate times, like for research or other educational purposes, then they should not be penalized, as long as the professor allows it. In addition, challenging the instructor on their knowledge of the subject should require students to be penalized as well. Some students do not realized that in fact the teacher does, more than likely, have more knowledge on that particular subject than the student does. When students do this, it can cause the teacher to become frustrated, taking valuable class time, therefore keeping the other students for learning. Students who do this should be removed from the class that day, and should be warned by the teacher. If the student continues to do so, it is the teachers right to remove the student from the
