What are banned books? What does it take for a book to get banned? What does it mean for a book if it gets banned? Banned books are books that parents/teachers have put it on a list that they don’t think are appropriate for their intended age group. But the books on the banned list still have literary value. Teens should be allowed to read No Second Chance because the book teaches students to not take your relationships and take them for granted, also to care for your family more than anything/anyone else, and it teaches students to do what they love. Firstly, students should be able to read No Second Chance because it teaches them not to ruin their relationship doing foolish things. In the book Marc the main character cheated on what he said to be the love of his life at a party because he was upset with her. Marc was having severe nostalgia and said, “I slept with another …show more content…
Marc is a plastic surgeon, not the kind for rich people to get rid of wrinkles or become “prettier”, he is the kind that reconstructs deformities in children’s faces in third world countries. “I love what I do… I love my patients and yet I love the calculating distance, the necessary coldness, of what I do”(Coben 76). This quote shows Marc does what he loves doing regardless of the fact he could make a lot more money he would rather help the less fortunate. That shows that the book teaches students to do what they love doing, to be happy with their work. Because Marc does what he loves, it teaches students to do the same.
No Second Chance is a book with value as a piece of literature and should be read by students regardless of it being on the banned book list. No Second Chance teaches students to not ruin their relationships by doing silly avoidable mistakes, to care for one’s family, and to do what they love doing. Are there books that still have value and lessons on the banned book list? No Second Chance does

As Marcus Tullius Cicero, a Roman philosopher, once said, "A room without books is like a body without a soul.” Books have the capability to be any person's escape from reality and no book should ever be subjected to the term "banned". Every book has at least one good thing to offer, no matter how great or small. All the reader has to do is give the book a chance and find that one thing. The novel The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, is one such book that should be taught in high school.…

In a few areas a great book, To Kill a Mockingbird, and many books like it are being banned. To Kill a Mockingbird is a very informative book on what life was like in the 1930’s, but it is still being banned for strong language, “strong content”, and strong cases of racism. Many schools have had kids read that book, but because of recent events a few have started to ban it. Some people believe that they can teach messages like the ones taught from this book, but in a better way, so they make it more suitable for kids to read. Some citizens feel that kids should be introduced to strong topics like this when they are in around 8th grade, which is a very common time for schools to have children/teens to read this novel in school, because kids need to be prepared for the real world early on.…

In every generation of students, there are always issues on the topic of banned books. The banned books are put into question because of its content, the certain content being something that parents don’t want their children to be exposed to. The book, 1984, by George Orwell has been one of the books that have been questioned. The book is about a dystopian society, and where the government controls everything its citizens do and think. The book is also about a thirty-nine year old man, so there would be some adult content and thoughts.…

Fortunately, for every group pushing for bans on literature, there are organizations that fight for this freedom. One such organization is the American Civil Liberties Union. In the year 2000, when discussing the topic of book banning, the organization stated that, “Permitting restraints on literature sets the stage for attacks on all expression that is artistically or politically controversial or that portrays unpleasant realities of life” (American Civil Liberties Union). Although some books may contain graphic violence or sexual content, and therefore of course should be kept out of the hands of children, I’d like to think that these widespread en masse bans of such literature are a poor way to go about it. It’s not as if middle or high school students are incapable of understanding and comprehending dark or more adult subject matter.…
