For the most part adults always want to make sure we learn new things but still keeping the harsh things away. I do understand why they do that, they want to prevent out childhood to be ruined by horrifying history that can completely change who we are. But at the same time I think they are keeping the truth from us. There is a difference between being sensitive with information and keeping us from learning about the truth. It is important for everyone to learn about the true events in history, educators need to find ways to be sensitive with the information while still correctly educating about our world. If it’s so true that we learn from our history, why not be completely honest about it. It’s important to learn about these sensitive subject even if it causes fear. We can’t just run away and pretend that things never happen. That can lead to a cycle of repetitive events because no one was ever educated about the problems. We need to know about all the good things about our history just as much as we need to learn about the ones that cause pain. It should be the students option to listen to things that can provoke certain feelings. Schools should censor information but learn to be sensitive. The film that we watched in class is a great example. All the information I learned was something new to me and it was very interesting. I appreciated the fact that we warned beforehand that it was graphic and hand content that could make us feel bad. We were also given the option to walk out if it was too harsh. But still having the opportunity to learn about that without censoring the graphic images was a good way to learn about how our society treated humans. It made me more aware of all the tragic things that happened to people of color. A modern Freedom Rider is Alicia Garza, a woman who organized the movement #blacklivesmatter. She gathered a group of people and fought to bring awareness to the tragic loss of many African American boys whose lives were taken away by white cops and received no punishment. She reminds me of Diane Nash, they both continued to fight for something they believed to be right despite the conflicts that they would be faced with. Garza has been able to bring awareness to the unfair treatment not only for Black but for all underrepresented
