According to his theory, during this stage children learn from real life, concrete experiences. Therefore diversity and inclusion allows children to learn about cultures and families represented within the program and the community they live in, though direct experiences (Click, Parker & Stone-Zukowski, 2013 pg.248).
I have included this feature in my philosophy statement because it would help children learn to understand other children and families who are from a different culture, religion etc. In India I had been to different types of school due to the nature of my father’s job. I have been to some homogeneous schools, where the philosophy was based on religious doctrines, and some secular schools, which was representative of the diverse

I would like to have male ECE’s as well as staff who are multi-cultural within the center. I would practice an anti-bias, multicultural and an inclusive curriculum that goes beyond dolls that are representative of the diversity. I would introduce books in the language of the children, have writing in the language of the children in the center, so the children are exposed to diverse cultures and language that are representative of the community. I would invite families to share something about their culture or language on special days.
Highly educated and experienced staff with specialized training and multi-disciplinary knowledge of child development to facilitate the interest and learning of the children. It has been noticed that when educators are highly qualified with specialized training they are better equipped to promote inclusion and diversity within the center and during my experience at various placements I have witnessed that, even if the center promotes diversity and inclusiveness, due to the lack of knowledge and cultural awareness educators were not able to plan curriculums and experiences to include all the children (Where We Stand on Professional Preparation Standards). During one of my placements I encountered a situation where we had 2 children in the class from Europe and communicated very little in English. They would start crying when they are brought in, and isolate themselves during play. I saw the ECEs in the room did not take any initiative to work with them because they did not know how to include or work with children from diverse backgrounds. This experience made me feel that if ECEs have higher level of education, specialized training and professional development to deal with diverse population, we could have a high quality childcare service.
