Project management is the application of knowledge, skills and techniques to execute projects effectively and efficiently - (Ara & Al-Mudimigh, 2011). A lot of companies consider ERP system implementation as a project. Since the ERP environment faces constant changes and reassessment of organizational processes, a successful project is about managing risks and quickly adapting to these changes. Effective project management is critical for the success of ERP implementation.
Traditional approaches to project management concentrate firmly on thorough planning up front - (Larson & Gray, 2011). With traditional project management methodologies, most problems and risks are identified before the project begins. In other words, the project requires a high degree of predictability to be effective. To be successful in implementing an ERP system, the project management methodology needs to be able to adapt to requirement changes. That is why the agile project management methodology is often used for ERP implementation.
