It’s really heartbreaking. Who knows what was going on in that child’s life to make them act out that? There was something lacking somewhere that resulted in misbehavior and disinterest. If a teacher could reach out and show that he or she truly cares about the student and his success, he would care more about himself and the effort he puts into school. In the article called “Closing the Attitude Gap,” Kafele talks about how teachers and principals need to get involved with the students. Kafele states, “The school’s role is to find a way to get the student excited about himself, about learning, and about the prospects for his future. If he is to stand for any chance for success, his attitude must change,” (16). There are many ways in order to make a student excited for his success, and in the article “Challenging Temperament, Teacher-Child Relationships, and Behavioral Problems in Urban Low-Income Children” it is stated that one way for the educator to do this is to make the atmosphere which the pupil is in suitable to his or her student’s temperaments (McCormick et al. 1199). There are parents out there who are worried their teacher’s may be in the relationship for more than just “being the best teacher they can be”. The thing is that school’s go through a very rigorous process of hiring these teachers. They do background checks and furiously research the people they hire. Once in a blue moon you may see on the news that a teacher took advantage of their authority and acted inappropriately towards a student, but we as a society need to place trust in our communities and schools. We need to trust that our kids are in good hands while they are at school. We cannot allow our kids to be withdrawn from the educational system. The future lies in the hands of the many generations to come.
