Student Teaching Reflection Paper

My co-teacher was very supportive and pushed me each day to succeed and further my skills and knowledge.
When I first started the experience I was anxious, but excited to put my coursework into action. I worked hard to research different ways to present the information for each lesson. I looked for activities that my students would enjoy, and I made a conscious effort to ensure that I had all of the materials and was well organized each day. Even then, there were always things that would go wrong. Schedules would change. Students would complete activities faster than planned. Prior to this semester I had no practice with speech sound disorder assessment or treatment. Luckily my supervisor was very knowledge and was able to share a wealth of information and techniques for me to practice. On my caseload I had 28 students receiving articulation/ phonological treatment. Of the 28, 21 of them were provided services using the 5-Minute Kids Model. I enjoyed implementing this model and found it very effective in developing my understanding and skills. This model allowed for me to receive a substantial amount of exposure and practice. Additionally, providing this type of therapy challenged me to target and make progress with children given a small amount of time each day. I had to develop ways to motivate students and provide meaningful feedback, but I also had to work hard to find ways to elicit as many trials

Pre-Teaching Another common general practice that teachers can use to help students with learning disabilities is called pre-teaching. Munk, Gibb, and Caldarella (2010) define pre-teaching as “the advance introduction of information that prepares students for upcoming instruction” (as cited in Berg and Wehby, p. 15). The introduction of difficult concepts and vocabulary can have a significant impact on a student’s progress understanding of new course material. Pre-teaching does not simply have to address vocabulary or concepts for an upcoming lecture. Instead, pre-teaching can be used to review previous concepts learned from a previous section.…

Arming Teachers The numbers active shooters are getting double shooters are thinking There is no good security on the effect of arming teachers or the effect of putting more armed police or security in schools which by self should be evidence-based but based on the evidence we do have there enough to suggest that putting more guns in schools could actually make gun violence. The number of active shooters are getting double. Shooters are thinking there is no security in schools so other terrorists are thinking schools are easy target to prove them wrong and stop them to shoot. Since some students had learning difficulties and attention deficits, the use of worksheets and reading material was not going to work for this group of students. Students were easily distracted which made it harder for counselors to stick to the lesson plan. The students’ attendance was poor because they were uninterested in the program, so counselors had to make it in a way students would want to engage in each session. The problems were persistent and effected the progress of the therapy program. After a while counselors noticed a lesson plan would not work so they came up with a more flexible approach.…

Arming Teachers: Protecting America’s Assets December 14, 2012 marks a day when America was shocked by the unexpected crime that took place on our own back porch. Twenty year old Adam Lanza made his way onto the Sandy Hook Elementary School campus and began to open fire on teachers and students, murdering 26 people total. According to a website that focuses on gun safety called “everytownresearch”, there have been 176 school shootings in America since the Newtown massacre. A question I have is could situations like Newton be avoided if teachers were armed and trained to use a firearms?…

Administrators require unnecessary information for students to learn which causes stress, headaches, and sleepless nights.
