Student Teaching Reflection

I do feel that my experience in student teaching has pushed me into becoming a more reliable person. Many times, during my student teaching, I was prompted by teachers to perform easy actions such as reading a book to a class or teaching a whole lesson or unit. Being that my mentor teacher is the one giving me my job, I feel more inclined to perform just about anything she asks. With that type of mentality, I dedicated myself to becoming anything that I teacher needed me to be. I face challenges at school in a more internalized way now. Instead of showing how freaked out I am, I swallow my fears and step up to perform what is asked of me. I do not always successfully complete what is asked for, but I do feel that this semester has made …show more content…
There are many times that I plan out differentiation for my students on my lesson plans, but I have some trouble implementing them once I start teaching. I get so caught up with the original task at hand that I forget that all students learn at different levels. In turn, I teach to all the students who can learn due to the methods of teaching that I have provided. Students who cannot learn from the way that I am teaching tend to fall into the background. I feel that if I had prepared myself to provide the intervention or remediation assignments to the students that need it I would be able to help students learn at their own pace and at a higher rate. I also feel that if I plan my lessons in a universal design I will meet all students learning styles. Since I have yet to increase my capabilities through the previously named ways, I would rate myself with a 3.5 in the area of meeting students …show more content…
I feel that their are many things that I need to work on based on the ratings that I have given myself throughout this entire document. Yes, I have seen tremendous growth, but I am ready to use the recommendations that I that I have given myself to become a better educator for my students. In the future, I seriously plan on putting more focus into become a more flexible educator who is prepared to take on whatever is thrown at them. Additionally, I will work more towards taking initiative and creating more positive relationships with my peers and supervisors. I can accomplish this through more professional development, studying and watching educator 's different teaching methods, pushing myself to becoming a more empathetic and open individual to strangers, and much

Differentiation is an essential aspect of an effective classroom. In order to allow all students to learn effectively and to be the best learner they can be, the various differences in students must be taken in account. As Tomlinson states in On Excellence in Teaching “a goal of differentiation is to respond to student readiness, interest, and mode of learning often enough and in enough ways to support each students’ engagement with and understanding of essential goals” (Marzano et al, 2010, p257). Differentiating a lesson can range from adapting to differences in readiness level, student interest, or learning styles. This lesson’s differentiation will focus on the readiness level of a group of students.…

Fear and self doubt had kept me from school subsequently making it harder for me to return and catch up. My failure to teach may have been that I wasn't focused enough to help my students, but I was there when they needed me to help them learn the importance of studying, citizenship, and team work, so it wasn't surely a failure. With the school year completed, I hadn't secured all I wanted, but I realized what I needed; I knew that I wasn't alone, there were other people who needed and could give the same support I wanted. Faking confidence was no longer a concern, once I managed to withstand the ordeal, I knew nothing else could scare me.…

According to Carol Tomilson, “differentiated instruction is factoring students’ individual learning styles and levels of readiness first before designing a lesson plan. Research on the effectiveness of differentiation shows this method benefits a wide range of students, from those with learning disabilities to those who are considered high ability” (What is Differentiated Instruction). A teacher would be considered using differentiated instruction if she was teaching a unit on weather and used different teaching methods to get the class to understand and comprehend the topic. In Prekindergarten we would set up different learning centers or small groups based on the learning styles of the students. In one area children would do a cut and paste activity using magazines to search for pictures that show what they would need to wear when it was cold, rainy, snowing, and hot.…

I helped students (4-16) grow in their learning by grading their assignments and tutoring them in areas of difficulty. I particularly enjoyed this experience not only because I was able to work with children and see their progress their studies, but I was also able to learn how to teach kids. I was ultimately able to take this new skill set and go off on my own to become a successful ACT tutor who raised money for a worthy cause.…

While in this course, I have acquired many skills by presenting and doing the many other activities we, as a class, did. I have acquired skills such as interviewing skills, personality skills, and presenting skills. This course has taught me to not be afraid of who I am and to stop being so shy because it decreases the quality of the presentation or interview. I also have gained skills such as, being bigger in presentations, being business presentable, leaning forward in interviews, knowing the business I am applying for, asking questions about the business, maintain eye contact throughout presentations or interviews, and even practicing. While presenting each of these presentations, it has taught me that if I do not practice my speeches before I present them then it is noticeable and takes the attention away from…

I credit this to my choice of using direct instruction as I felt it was appropriate and worked effectively with the class I was teaching.
