When we think of student success or student failure we automatically jump to conclusions about the type of education the student received. We are quick to connect student success to “great teachers” and student failure to “bad teachers.” Teaching is among the highest demanding careers and has a great job outlook, yet it is one of lowest paid professions. Many leave the seemingly tough position within the first five years. So what does it take to become a suitable teacher? Who should teach and why is “good teaching” important? Credential programs allow teachers to learn about what they will be doing in the classroom. It prepares them to be in a teaching environment, allows them to have an open mind and prepares them to create great lesson plans. Therefore, teachers should have at least three years of classroom experience through a credential program. It prepares them for what students expect of a teacher and allows them to get to know the students in a different perspective. They get to see the children becomes scientists, doctors, or even a journalist. Credential programs are designed to prepare teachers and help them out along the way to a pursuing career in teaching because knowing and being able to teach the subject are two very different things (Thompson, 2016). Good teaching is what sparks an interest inside a student’s mind to achieve their goals and explore new ideas. For example, if a great teacher is teaching students the concept of environmental science and how important it is to recycle. The students will grow up valuing the world around them, take action in taking care of the environment, and it can encourage the student to wanting to become an environmental scientist. They can create new ways to keep our water, soil, and air clean, which will then help out many people. Great teaching is the start of great things, it’s a chain that keeps growing and creates a positive influence. Good teaching can also make a student realize that he/she has the potential to learn and create great things (Thompson, 2016). Another example would be: a low income child that has lived most of his/her life in poverty but is doing great in school. Thus has the chance to attend college but isn’t informed about financial aid, scholarships, and doesn’t even know how to apply to a university. But along comes a teacher that has a great interest and sees the potential of this student and the teacher truly believes that the student can amount to great things in life. That will be the person that can make a difference in the student’s life, that student will have a higher chance to become someone with a great career and help their family out of
