For me, the best example of community is actually my floor in Elm Hall. By any definition we are an amalgamation of people who came from different locals, beliefs, and backgrounds; yet, we were capable of coming together to form a close-knit community. Sure not everyone is great friends with everyone else, but that's to be expected. What we are though is a group of people who are there to support the rest of the floor when they need help on homework, getting a ride to the airport, or just putting together a game of ultimate. My Resident Assistants have done an excellent job of fostering our community through group activities such as volunteering to help feed the homeless, and getting us together for intramural sports. Their success in bringing us together will serve as the inspiration for how I will bring my floor together as a community. For example, I plan on bringing back activities from my current freshmen year, such as having my floor participate in Intramural sports, and getting together to watch movies occasionally. But, I also have my own ideas I will implement to help foster the support network that is the bedrock of any community. By putting up sign up sheets for people to write on if they need a ride to the airport, or can give a ride before our breaks would eliminate some of the difficulties our floor had with figuring out transportation. And by putting up a board for people to write on if they are having trouble in a certain class or on a certain homework assignment, will make it easier for others on the floor to reach out and help them. I strongly believe a community is a one part social connection and one part a support network, so to support my floors community, I will promote both the social interactions through group activities and the support community by facilitating opportunities for
