Service is a priority in my life because I feel the need to help others and my community. I am always looking for all sorts of ways to help. I have shown service to my community by helping pack lunches for others. This is a way to make sure that the people living in my community get food to eat. I show leadership by taking responsibility and being fair to others. Over the summer, I babysat various amounts of times. Babysitting takes leadership because I had to be in control of the child at all times. I also had the responsibility of taking care of them and managing them. I have also demonstrated leadership by being in charge of the sophomore powder puff. I had to make sure I got everyone’s money, created and make the shirts on time, and helped establish practices. To do this, I knew that I needed to be very organized, so I made lists and started right away. This not only took organization, but also took time managing skills. I was given a certain amount of time that I needed to have everything organized one hundred percent. Leadership has made me a very organized, productive, and responsible

One way I plan to demonstrate leadership and service is through volunteering to be a sixth grade camp counselor. Counseling middle schoolers would not only improve my responsibility, but it would also be another way that I plan to serve my community and demonstrate leadership. Another way I plan to build character and lead is to join Link Crew during my junior and senior years. I remember my Link Crew leaders during my freshman year and they were very helpful and informative. I also hope to be same positive role model for incoming freshman who are nervous or have questions.…

Service to others has played a big part of my high school career. I am an instructor for a middle school indoor winterline group and I am specifically in charge of the colorguard members and their work. When I am with the group, I help instruct and show these young students the correct way to do dance, colorguard, and performance. By teaching them, it has lead me to develop my own skills, like communication, leadership, and my own dance and colorguard skills. Also, another reason service is important in my life is because of the relationships I gain.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

I have exhibited the four levels of National Honor Society by the extracurricular activities I am in and in my academics. I express scholarship as I have excellent grades and towards the end of my sophomore year I had received an academic letter. Through leadership I have helped others in schoolwork, cheerleading, and I have pushed others in cross country and track. With cross country I may not be much of a leader in practice, but I am a strong leader when it comes to supporting everyone in their races. Also many people come to me for help for they trust me and rely on my knowledge.…

Scholarships are important because they provide an opportunity for underprivileged students to do something better. They can pay some of their way through the college of their choice. Scholarships taught me acceptance and denial; because I have never received one, so when I do, I will be grateful and use it towards college: room, board, books, or tuition in general. Service is important because it gives students a new perspective that they are not entitled to anything. Sometimes after completing service projects students learn that giving back to the community without anything in return is rewarding in itself.…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
