I am writing to petition for reinstatement at Rhodes State College. I have been placed on academic suspension due to my failure in maintaining above a 2.0 cumulative GPA. My academic suspension did not come as a surprise but I was nonetheless devastated to receive this news. I hope you will consider reinstating me for the summer 2017 semester.

I didn’t take my classes as seriously as I should have. I ended up passing one class which deeply hurt my G.P.A. I was not proud of my actions this first semester. I decided

I enrolled in Spanish again to make up that F and I enrolled in APEX classes, which is credit recovery classes for students who either earned a D or an F on a course throughout the year, APEX allows students to be able to make up classes. I understand that it wouldn't be the same since some of the classes i got Ds in were AP classes, but i was determined to complete all my APEX classes with an A. This year I feel so determined to finish this year strong and try to make up for the failures i had in the past. My transcript isn't the best looking and my GPA isn't as high as i wanted it to be, but i am a very determined student and person. My grades this past year were and are not indicative of who I am as a student, or as a person in general. My junior year of high school, I decided to do PSEO, thinking it was an easy way to get credits for both high school and college. I did not realize the struggle I was going to have just trying to be accountable for myself during my senior year. My daily schedule consisted of work, soccer, managing the high school boy’s hockey team, volunteer work, spending time with my high school friends and taking college courses. I took the most challenging classes through Anoka-Ramsey Community College, thinking that like high school these would be the best for me.…

I repetitively used the excuse that I was competing against the smartest students in the city, and that not doing well was to be expected. These low expectations caused my grades to plummet, and with my grades, my self-confidence fell too. By the time I was a sophomore, I was on the verge of failing all of my classes. I fell into a state where I believed that I couldn’t do anything with my life and there was nothing that I could do to change it. This toxic mindset bled into the other aspects of my life, inside and outside of school.…

In the beginning of this semester, I remember what a nervous wreck I was and how much pressure was put on me. Attending my second semester at UNC Charlotte on academic probation was not my first intention whenever I moved to the city of Charlotte and made the new commitment of attending a four year university. Whenever I was told that I needed to attend a class two times a week so I wouldn’t be kicked out of school, I felt nothing but shame and frustration. I was certain whenever I mentioned to my parents and my girlfriend that I was on academic probation, they would be ashamed of me.…

Three years into my high school I hadn't gotten into the state of mind that most over achievers have. I had floated through high school thinking I was trying my very hardest to get good grades and become a consistently studious candidate of my school. However, no matter how hard I tried I failed I gave into all the distractions and used all my obstacles as excuses became frustrated and developed an attitude problem that I had created myself. Being a consistent 2.5 student wasn't satisfying or inspiring. Uniquely enough, I had decided to take challenging courses my junior year.…
